The original wooden Crane, symbol of the old Hanseatic city of Gdansk, was rebuilt after its destruction by fire in the years 1442-44 in its still existing form. In 1945, the entire wooden structure and nearly half of the walls have been destroyed. According to plans Stanislaw Bobinskis took place 1957-59 reconstruction. Today it stands as a magnificent building in the former Port of Gdansk. In previous centuries, the Crane beside the charging function also fulfilled a depot. In addition, it was the greatest defensive gate of the city. In our model, we have reconstructed the lifting mechanism of the crane faithfully; it consists of two huge wooden wheels, up to 2000 could be lifted kg using those weights. The crane mechanism has been set by the running of workers on sprouts in transition that were installed inside the wheels. The upper lifting mechanism, which is located 30 meters above the water surface, was used for example, to use ship masts, while the lower mechanism was used (11 meters high) for loading of wine barrels, millstones and other heavy goods.
