A special feature of the Hildesheimer Cathedral is the so called "Tausendjährige Rosenstock" (=thousand years old rosebush) this particular wild rose grows in the cloistered courtyard, the so called "Ahnenfriedhof" (= ancestor's graveyard) and is supposed to be the oldest living rose.
By legend, it dates back to the year 815, the year the cathedral was established.
